Is there a leak in your roof? Would you like to know the reasons why your roof is leaking?
People usually assume that their roof is leaking because there is a hole or crack in it. But it could be doing so because of various other reasons. Knowing them too will make it easy for you to diagnose and fix your roof.
Sometimes it is not a problem with the actual roof, but the chimney. Wear and tear around the chimney leads to the formation of cracks and holes. It includes damage to the mortar and flashing. Harsh weather conditions like excess rain, snowfall, and hail storms can cause this.
It is best to contact a roof repair expert as the material and skill required to fix this is very different from regular roof repairs.
Have you ever noticed pipe like things sticking out of your roof?
They are usually covered with a rubber boot and flashing. These are what you call roof vents and they help flush out the excess moisture present in your house.
There rubber boots and the flashing will get occasionally damaged. This will cause leaks, dark spots and mustiness. Hence you need to get these fixed immediately.
Gutters are placed on the roof to ensure that water moves away from it instead of remaining stagnant. But sometimes the gutter will get clogged with leaves, twigs and other debris. You will easily notice this problem as water won’t be flowing out of the down sprout.
This means that the water is collecting at a certain area of the roof. This will eventually corrode the roof and lead to cracks which will cause leaks.
Hence if your gutter isn’t doing its job make sure you remove the blockage or call a good roofing repairman and get it fixed right away.
These are top three reasons (other than a cracked roof) why your roof is leaking. Other reasons include condensation in the attic, cracked flashing, improperly sealed valleys and formation of ice damps.
